Biography
Makayla Flocken is an operatic soprano known for her dramatic lyricism and strong characterization, a voice that will eventually traverse the Wagnerian repertoire. She is a second-year Master’s student of Opera Performance at Arizona State University, studying under Carole Fitzpatrick. In 2024, she received her Bachelor's of Music Performance at Chapman University. Makayla has performed several operatic roles, including Florencia in Catan’s Florencia en el Amazonas; Arminda in Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera, and Cinderella in Massenet’s Cendrillon; she also premiered the part of the Grand Consul in From Towers to the Moon, and most recently performed Tina in Jonathan Dove’s Flight. Makayla Flocken is the winner of the annual Concerto Aria competition at Chapman University, was named the third-place winner for the Mirabell Palace competition in Salzburg, Austria, was the winner of the MACOC Music Competition, and was third-place in the NAT’s Western Regional Competition. She plans to spend the summer of 2026 in Reno, Nevada, at the Institute for Young Dramatic Artists’ Summer Program.
